Saying No to the Mórrígan
Apr 22, 2025
One of the most unsettling moments on this path can come when the Mórrígan asks something of you that you just can’t give.
It’s not always clear whether it’s a metaphor, a calling, a demand… or all three at once. And for those of us trying to walk a respectful, reciprocal path, it can be hard to know what to do next.
A question came in recently from one of our Mórrígan Academy students:
“Has the Mórrígan ever asked you for something you felt you couldn’t give? And how do you renegotiate that?”
Yes. Absolutely, she has. I’ve experienced it personally, and I know I’m not alone.
The Mórrígan's Request I Refused
When I first began my formal relationship with the Mórrígan, I dedicated my life’s work to her in exchange for something I needed.
This was no airy metaphor – it was real, it was clear, and it happened at her cave in Cruachan, her “fit abode”. She wanted my life’s service, and I gave it.
But during that exchange, she also asked for something else. She asked for access to my children.
Not in a spooky Hollywood-horror way, but with the expectation that I would raise them into her service too. And my answer was simple: no.
Because that wasn’t mine to give.
That’s the line. That’s the boundary. It doesn’t matter if it’s a deity or a human – sovereignty means knowing what’s yours and what isn’t. And while I could give my own life’s work, I couldn’t offer someone else’s.
So I told her that. And the relationship moved forward anyway.
You’re Allowed to Say No to the Mórrígan
This is the part that’s vital for anyone walking a path with this Goddess, whether you’ve just started or you’ve been with her for years:
You’re allowed to say no.
She’s not here to trick you or test you just for the sake of it. But she will push. Because she has work to do.
And if you’re someone with the capacity to help – especially if you’ve made a commitment – she’s going to ask.
That doesn’t mean you’re a doormat. It doesn’t mean burning out, breaking your own boundaries, or giving what’s not yours to offer.
It means being clear on your own sovereignty. Just as she protects sovereignty, so should you.
Real Relationships Need Boundaries
This is not a Goddess who wants blind obedience. She wants results. She wants clarity. She wants the work done.
But she also wants Right Relationship – and that means mutual respect, honesty, and boundaries that are held with strength. Just like in any healthy human relationship, saying no when you need to, and communicating why, is part of that trust.
There is a misconception that if you refuse the Mórrígan, she’ll curse you or abandon you.
My experience – and the experience of the majority of students I’ve worked with – is that if you’re walking with her in good faith, and you hold your own sovereignty, that refusal can actually strengthen the relationship.
Honour Your Boundaries Like You Honour Hers
The Mórrígan isn’t just about battle and blood – she’s about strategy, about long vision, about what’s necessary. She doesn’t expect your perfection.
She expects your presence, your honesty, and your best effort, within what you have the power to give.
So next time you’re asked something hard, pause. Ask:
-
Is this mine to give?
-
Is this ethical, safe, and sustainable for me?
-
Can I offer something else, or renegotiate the shape of this request?
Because saying no to the Mórrígan, when it comes from sovereignty and self-respect, might be exactly what she’s teaching you to do.
